I would only suggest replaying if you managed to miss one of the two quite elusive hidden characters in this game. One of the greatest things in the game is being able to acquire a 'Music Box', where you can listen to any of the 46 songs in the game whenever you please.
Most of it was kind of mediocre, but there were quite a few songs that would stick in the back of your mind cheerily for the rest of the day. I really enjoyed a lot of the music in this game. This kind of gameplay is what separates an RPG from tedious events piled together to well. The entire challenge of this game is deciding whether to waste your time taking a guess every 5 minutes or looking up a walkthrough. Not unlike many Dragon Quest games, you will be thrown in the middle of a predicament with little to no help of finding what to do next. legendary for being one of the most aggravating RPGs of all time. The gameplay in Beyond the Beyond is what makes it legendary. The character development in Beyond the Beyond is mdoerately good, with a variety of different personalities, yet nothing too special. Hero loses father, hero goes after father, hero saves world in process. Though this was a great idea, most players would get very perturbed at not being able to get the almost 'lucky' chance of being able to align your button mashing with the in-game timing.Īs far as story goes, Beyond the Beyond is pretty so-so.
By the player pressing the X or down and X button at the same time, your character would get the chance to perform a double attack or charge attack, respectively. The biggest difference between Beyond the Beyond's battle system and any other RPG's was the hidden timer when making an action. RPGs at the time were finally beginning to stray away from the 'Enemy flashed means its attacking or being attacked' type of battle. One of the greatest is, of course, being able to see your characters' sprites in the battlefield. There were many differences with Beyond the Beyond's battle system then there were with other RPGs at the time. Although, in my opinion, 2D is usually better then 3D, the sprites did tend to get somewhat old throughout the game if not for the very well developed battle system. On the PSX, it was set in a 2D world with 2D sprites. Beyond the Beyond is one of Camelot's first games.
